In a tiny town in Tennessee, Bertie (VANESSA HUDGENS) is strapped for cash and feeling worn down by life as she and her husband Sonny try to make ends meet for their three young kids. Bertie decides to take matters into her own hands and secretly starts taking lessons to learn how to drive 18-wheelers. Life on the road is not for the faint of heart: long hours, cold nights and dangerous highways usually attract a certain breed of people looking to forget or start over. But for Bertie, it’s a chance to make something of herself and to give her family everything they’ve ever wanted.

Sonny agrees to look after the kids as Bertie hits the road and at first, everyone is happy. Bertie is thrilled by her new-found sense

of adventure and purpose, and with all the money she’s bringing home, Bertie and Sonny can finally build the family life they’ve always wanted. Bertie also finds a fast friend in Gal, an older, more seasoned female big rig driver who welcomes Bertie into her community. As the women and their friends drive across the country, Bertie’s perspective on life begins to blossom in ways she never before imagined.

But things turn less rosy as Bertie racks up the miles, her home life becomes increasingly alien, and, once a warm and loving couple, she and Sonny find themselves growing apart. Having discovered a whole new side of herself, Bertie realises that she needs to find her way back to Sonny and their family.
